General Information
  • Park hours: dawn to dusk
  • Open to the public.
  • Park area/pavilion use is $150 ($50 of the $150 is a cleaning deposit and will be refunded after the event is done and has been inspected).
  • Park rules
    • No alcohol, weapons, drugs, glass containers, campfires, pets, littering, overnight parking or camping.
    • Smoke only in designated areas.
    • Noise ordinance enforced.
    • Park in designated parking areas.
Smith Lake Park

Smith Lake Recreation Area features several picnic areas within the 200 acre day-use park. Smith Lake is our largest park and provides a perfect setting for intimate family and social events or for group gatherings up to 1500+ guests. Set in the midst of North Carolina’s longleaf pine tree forest, the park provides ample parking and is easily accessible off of Honeycutt Road. The picnic areas offer many amenities such as Pavilions with BBQ grills, water and electric supply, basketball and sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and brand-new Americans’ With Disability Act (ADA) compliant playgrounds. Close-by mountain bike and hiking trails offer an exciting opportunity for the novice and seasoned nature enthusiast to explore the Sandhills region.

Wilson Park

Nestled in a tranquil setting, this park offers a gently rolling landscape with grassy areas and mature leaf trees, which makes it a popular spot for families and large groups up to 1000 guests. This park provides family size picnic shelters and pavilions for larger group gatherings. The park also features a three-acre lake where visitors enjoy feeding ducks and try their luck fishing off the pier in Mcfadden Pond (contact the Wildlife Branch at +1 (910)396-7506 for license requirements). One of the prominent amenities is an American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant playground. It features swings accessible to kids of all abilities, slides and manipulative play areas.

Woodland Park

This multi-use area offers much for the nature lover and outdoor enthusiast.  Woodland Park is the largest on Pope Army Air Field, perfect for units, squadrons, FRG functions of 1500+ guests. This park provides ample parking and is accessible off of Stiner Rd. Woodland Park offers many amenities such as Pavilions with BBQ grills, water and electricity supply, sand volleyball court, horseshoe pit and brand-new Americans’ With Disability Act (ADA) compliant playground area.

Flightline Park

If you enjoy watching airplanes land and take-off then this park is for you. Tucked away in the back of Pope Army Air Field near Manchester gate this is the perfect place to hold small and medium events. This medium size park has six Pavilions with BBQ grills, electricity, a new Americans’ With Disability Act (ADA) compliant playground area and a newly constructed parking area.
