Clay Target Center is one of the largest shotgun shooting facilities in the state of North Carolina. We are located outside of the installation in Spring Lake and are open to the public. All levels, from beginners to experts, are welcome.  

If you are new to the sport, our team members will help instruct you on the basics, getting you to hit those orange targets. Our facility offers shotgun rentals for on-site skeet and trap shooting or customers may bring their own shotgun (see requirements under FAQs).

Age Requirements
  • Must be at least 8 years of age to shoot.
  • Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older.

Paintball Party Packages

Let Clay Target Center host your paintball party!

Reserve a private party package today. Each package includes marker rental, mask rental, tent and referees for up to 20 players. It will also include 4000 paint balls and 3 hours of field time and air supply. 

Cost of the party package will be $250. During reservation, there is $50 deposit that is only refundable due to weather cancellations. Reservations must be made no less than 14 days prior to date of the event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do shotguns need to be registered on the installation to shoot them at the Clay Target Center?

Shotguns do not need to be registered on the installation to shoot at our facility. No firearms other than shotguns are allowed on the premises. 

What is the minimum age to shoot at Clay Target Center?

Shooters must be at least 8 years of age. Children under the age of 8 are not allowed on the fields. Children/youth under the age of 18 must be signed-in, accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian, 21 years or older, at all times (on and off the fields). 

Are rental shotguns available and what is the dress code?

12 Gauge, 20 gauge and 28 gauge rental shotguns are available. Only one rental shotgun is permitted per field. Ear and eye protection are mandatory. Closed toed shoes are recommended. 

Why is the shot size regulated?

Shot size is restricted to sizes 7.5, 8 and 9. These sizes have been deemed safe to prevent rounds from traveling beyond the skeet and trap fields. 

Do you offer instructions on the basics of skeet and/or trap shooting?

Instructions on basics of skeet/trap shooting are offered. Reservations are recommended and an instruction fee will be charged in 15 min. increments. 

Is it possible to schedule a shooting event outside regular scheduled opening hours?

Groups may schedule an event during non-operating days for 20 or more participants. An additional charge will be added to units requesting to use the pavilion.

Is Clay Target Center open to the public?

Yes.

How long can I stay at the RV park and what type of sites are available?

IAW AR 215-1, homesteading is strictly prohibited. Stays up to 60 days from April to September and 90 days from October to March are authorized. All RV sites are partial service sites, 30/50 amp electrical and water hook-ups. A dump station is located on site, free of charge for registered campers.

 Are dogs allowed at Clay Target Center?

Dogs are allowed on the premises but must be leashed at all times. Owners must clean up after their pets.

What is the cut-off time for starting new rounds?

No new rounds 30 minutes prior to closing.
